Anna Elander
Dr Anna Elander started with plastic surgery 1986 and has been Head of the Department of Plastic Surgery, Sahlgrenska University Hospital, Gothenburg Sweden between 1997-2022 and was also the Head of Hand Surgery between 2009-2015. Dr Elander was appointed professor of Plastic Surgery at the Medical Faculty, University of Gothenburg, in 2001 and has been leading both research activities and surgical development, as well as the clinic´s entire orientation for 25 years. Her clinical orientation was from start Cleft Palate Surgery, whereafter a growing interest in the problems with excess skin in post-bariatric patients came in focus and especially the research perspective. Parallel to these she took the lead in treating children with giant nevi.
Dr Elander lead two Norwegian project as president involving treatment protocols for cleft palate care in Norway and investigation of how to merge two plastic surgery units in Oslo in 2005-2006. She has also held positions as president and coordinator for national projects regarding national medical indications and still holds one within knowledge-based management within healthcare under the Swedish Associations of Local Authorities and Regions (SKR). As director of the department of Plastic Surgery Dr Elander nominated seven topics within Plastic Surgery for Health Technology Assessment(HTA).
Dr Elander has written more than 89 peer-reviewed original publications and has been the Editor of Journal of Plastic Surgery and Hand Surgery since 2010. Anna Elander is currently the ESPRAS delegate representing the Nordic region as nominated by the SCAPLAS community.
